The composer was inspired to write 'This World' whilst working at Thames & Hudson with the poet and Blake scholar Kathleen Raine on her book about William Blake ‘The Human Face of God: William Blake and the Book of Job’. It was her passion for Blake that suggested this and several other pieces including ‘Urizen’ (viola and piano), ‘Fuzon’ (String Quartet) and ‘Rintrah Roars’ (voice, harp and piano ).
‘This World’ was commissioned and first performed by the choir ‘Cryes of London’ and subsequently broadcast by the BBC Singers. It is scored for choir, with two soprano soloists and two trumpets.
